What is Pseudobulbar Affect (PBA)?

PBA is a neurological condition that causes sudden, frequent, uncontrollable crying and/or laughing that doesn't match the person's feelings.

It can also manifest as exaggerated expressions of emotion, such as crying excessively over a poignant TV commercial, or not being able to stop laughing at something that's only slightly humorous.

PBA is too often underdiagnosed, and is commonly mistaken for depression.  It can often occur in people with brain injury or certain neurological conditions.

PBA's unpredictability can be embarrassing and affect people's daily routines. But effective treatment options are available!
